Some days remind you why golf is unlike any other sport. Our recent visit to the Arnold Palmer Cup at Tralee Golf Club was one of those days — a celebration of world-class golf, breathtaking scenery and the enduring friendships that make the game so special.
Championship Golf at Its Finest
The Arnold Palmer Cup has long been one of amateur golf's most prestigious international team events, bringing together many of the world's most talented young collegiate golfers to compete in the spirit of excellence, sportsmanship and international friendship. Many former competitors have gone on to become stars on the professional tours, making the event a fascinating opportunity to watch the future of the game before they reach the world's biggest stages.
This year's championship found a fitting home at Tralee Golf Club. Perched on the edge of Ireland's Wild Atlantic Way, Tralee is one of the world's great links courses. Designed by the legendary Arnold Palmer, who famously described the opening nine holes as "the most spectacular nine in golf", the course provided a spectacular backdrop to an event that proudly carries his name.
The golf course rewards imagination, demands trust for the blind shots only associated with links golf and every walk to the next tee reveals breathtaking views across the wild Atlantic coastline as your reward.
Throughout the week, players from across the United States and around the world embraced the challenge that only authentic links golf can provide. Firm fairways, towering dunes, changing winds and unpredictable bounces demanded imagination as much as precision. Every match showcased not only exceptional golfing talent but also the resilience, creativity and sportsmanship that define the very best competitors.
The Arnold Palmer Cup attracted a number of the World's Top 10 Men's and Women's amateurs — Luke Poulter, Josiah Gilbert, Ryder Cowan, Kiara Romero, Farah O'Keefe and Maria Jose Marin, to name but a few. We got a front row seat to watch future PGA & LPGA Tour stars, future Ryder Cup players and future Major Champions before the rest of the golfing world finds out who they are.
The event showcased the quality of golf at an elite level and their ability to navigate a championship golf course like Tralee Golf Club.
Team International were the eventual winners, defeating Team USA 30.5–29.5 in a thrilling Sunday afternoon — the closest margin of victory in the Arnold Palmer Cup since 2000.
Beyond the Leaderboard
The atmosphere around the club was equally memorable. Members, volunteers, families and travelling supporters created a warm and welcoming environment, while spectators enjoyed the unique opportunity to walk alongside tomorrow's golfing stars in one of the most spectacular settings in the game. There was a genuine sense that everyone present appreciated they were witnessing something special — a celebration of golf in one of its purest forms.
Whilst it is difficult to choose a standout moment, a lasting memory will be walking the fairways of Tralee Golf Club with current Walker Cup Captain, Dean Robertson. It was extremely insightful to discuss the golf on display at the Arnold Palmer Cup, the upcoming Walker Cup at Lahinch Golf Club from 5–6 September 2026 and also reminisce on the times he played with Tiger Woods. A fascinating walk & talk.
Yet, while the golf was exceptional, it wasn't the leaderboard that left the greatest impression. It was everything surrounding it. Walking the fairways with the Atlantic Ocean as a constant backdrop. The warm welcome from the volunteers and members. Conversations in the clubhouse with visitors who had travelled from around the world. Watching complete strangers connect over a shared passion for the game.
